Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I bring my car?
    Yes! All Midway House locations offer plenty of parking in private lots that are monitored 24/7 by security cameras.
  • Can I work overnight shifts?
    Absolutely. If you’re working nights, we’ll just ask for a copy of your work schedule for verification.
  • Are overnight passes allowed?
    Yes, after 30 days in the house, residents are eligible for overnight passes. Please note that a drug test is required upon your return.
  • Is there a curfew?
    Yes, we have an 11:00 PM curfew. That said, we do make exceptions for residents who work night shifts—just let us know!
  • Is the housing co-ed?
    Yes, our houses are co-ed. However, rooms are shared with the same gender only—two people per room.
  • Do you drug test residents?
    Yes, random drug testing is conducted at least once a week.
  • Do you test for alcohol use?
    Yes, we perform random breathalyzer tests in addition to regular drug screening.
  • Is smoking allowed?
    Yes, smoking is permitted in designated covered porch areas. Vaping is allowed in common areas but not in bedrooms.
  • What could result in a resident being asked to leave?
    Violations of Midway House rules may result in dismissal. Common issues include relapse without a willingness to seek treatment, ongoing conflict or disruptive behavior, failure to follow curfew, poor cleanliness or upkeep of personal space, or non-payment of rent.
  • Can I live at Midway House if I have a criminal record?
    We review criminal histories on a case-by-case basis. However, we do not accept individuals with convictions for sexual or violent offenses.
  • What are the requirements to maintain residency?
    Residents must follow all house rules and pay rent on time.
  • Can I receive mail or packages at the residence?
    Yes. Residents may receive mail and packages at the house.
  • Can I have visitors at the house?
    Visitors are not allowed inside the residence. However, family members may wait in the parking area when picking up a resident.
  • Are you affiliated with a treatment center?
    We are an independent, structured sober living home. While we are not connected to a treatment center, we have great relationships with many local providers and are happy to offer referrals.
  • Are private rooms available?
    Yes, we do offer private rooms for an additional fee. Availability may vary.
  • Are the homes secure?
    Yes. All of our houses are equipped with surveillance systems that are actively monitored to ensure resident safety.
  • Are there live-in managers?
    Yes, each Midway House location has full-time live-in managers to provide support and maintain structure.
  • Is there a computer available for residents?
    Yes, every house has a shared computer and printer available for residents’ use, free of charge.
  • Are laundry facilities provided?
    Yes! Every house includes free access to washers, dryers, and laundry detergent.
  • Do residents clean their own rooms?
    Yes. Residents are responsible for keeping their personal spaces clean.
  • What amenities are included?
    Midway House provides several amenities, which may include TVs, on-site washer and dryer, a computer area, and access to a barbecue.
  • Is food provided? Can residents cook at the house?
    Food is not included. However, residents have access to shared kitchens and are expected to prepare their own meals.
  • Are basic supplies like soap and toilet paper provided?
    Yes. Basic household sundries such as toilet paper and soap are supplied.
  • Do you accept insurance?
    Midway House is a sober living house, not a treatment center. Because insurance does not cover housing costs, our homes are private pay only.
  • What forms of payment are accepted?
    We accept cash, checks, and credit cards.
  • When is rent due?
    Rent is due monthly on the same day you move in. For example, if you move in on the 5th, your rent will be due on the 5th of each month.
  • Are payments refundable if I decide to leave?
    No. All payments are non-refundable.
  • Is a credit check required?
    No. We do not conduct credit checks, as we aim to remove barriers to recovery and housing.
  • Do you allow prescribed medications that are controlled substances?
    The only controlled substance we allow is Suboxone, when prescribed and properly documented.
  • Can I use marijuana if I have a medical card?
    No. Marijuana—medical or recreational—is not permitted at Midway House.
