Becoming a Resident
Midway House of NJ welcomes men and women of all ages and backgrounds during the journey to a healthier, sober life. We take the time to make sure our homes in Rockaway and Morristown are the right fit for your situation. Becoming a resident starts with a single, confidential conversation - no pressure, no obligation.
Who Midway House Is For
Our homes are built for people who are serious about recovery and ready to live in a structured, substance-free environment. You may be a good fit if you:
-
Are a man or woman committed to maintaining your sobriety
-
Are transitioning out of inpatient, partial care (PHP), or intensive outpatient (IOP), or are stable in early recovery and want added structure
-
Are working, in school, or actively looking - our homes are designed around real life
-
Are willing to attend meetings, work with a sponsor, follow house rules, and complete regular drug and alcohol testing
Midway House is not a homeless shelter or post-incarceration housing. We review criminal histories case by case and do not accept individuals with convictions for violent or sexual offenses. We welcome residents from across New Jersey, as well as those relocating from nearby states for a fresh start.
How To Become A Resident
-
Confidential phone screening. Call for a private, judgment-free conversation about where you are in recovery and what you're looking for, so we can understand your needs and whether Midway House fits.
-
Rates and availability. We'll walk you through current rates and which home, Rockaway or Morristown, has openings that match your situation.
-
Application. If it's a fit, you'll complete a short application and review our house rules and resident agreement, so there are no surprises.
-
Move-in. Arrive with your personal belongings - your room is fully furnished, and we provide a starter pack of toiletries on day one.
What's Included In Your Stay
Our rates are all-inclusive — one rate covers everything, with no hidden charges. Every resident gets:

-
A fully furnished room and shared common spaces
-
All utilities and free high-speed Wi-Fi (plus house computers if you need one)
-
Free laundry, detergent, and a starter pack of toiletries
-
A full-time, live-in house manager available 24/7
-
Built-in peer support and easy access to AA/NA meetings
-
Gym access, cable, and landscaped grounds
-
Transit near your door - NJ Transit and Lakeland Bus outside our Rockaway home, and the Morristown Train Station a block and a half from our Morristown home
What To Bring On Move In Day
Keep it simple: your clothing and personal items, a photo ID, and any prescribed medications (see our medication policy in the FAQ). Because rooms are fully furnished, there's no need to bring furniture or household basics.
What We Expect From Residents
Recovery works best with structure. Every resident maintains continuous abstinence, attends meetings, works a program with a sponsor, observes curfew, keeps their space clean, contributes to chores, and pays rent on time. Employment is encouraged as you stabilize. You can read the full house policies on our The Houses page and find answers to common questions on our FAQs page.
Pricing and Payment
While our rates are very competitive, we don't publish a fixed price online — occupancy, current economic factors, and each resident's individual needs all affect what's right for you. What we promise is total transparency: our rates are all-inclusive, weekly and monthly options are available, and you'll never be hit with surprise fees. Many families choose to help cover the cost of a loved one's stay, and we're glad to walk through the options. Call us today for current rates. (All fees are non-refundable.)
